Rapid is the most popular club in Austria and also record title holder having won the Austrian national football title 32 times.

It also prides itself as the only team from the former Ostmark, then part of the German Reich, to win the German war-time league (in 1941) – as Austria was incorporated into Germany during the war. The Rapid squad is often known as the „Green-Whites” ,fans and supporters can be very proud of their team: Central-European Cup two wins (1930, 1951) and three silver medals(1927, 1928, 1956) and in Intertoto Cup two times winning (1992, 1993) result.
They achieved their biggest success in cup winner teams game, they played Cup Winners Cup , and were runners up in final two times. In 1984/85 season they beaten Besiktas, Celtic Glasgow, Dinamo teams, Drezda and Moscow, and in final round they played with Everton, but English team became the winner. In season 1995/96 they repeated their success, opponents were Ploiesti, Sporting, Dinamo Moscow and Feyenoord, and after they met finally with French team Paris SG, but lost only with one goal at the end. It is also a big success of the team, that they played in UEFA Champions Club Cup semi final, but Portuguese team Benfica stopped them (1961).
Biggest legend of green-whites is Mr. Hans Krankl. The striker was loved by Austria, he played 69 times in National A team, and was Spanish goalking, he played Cup Winners Cup winner team Barcelona, and when he retired he became the captain of Austrian National Team. Mr. Krankl played Rapid Wien for 13 years, played on 350 matches, scored 267 goals, and was honoured with golden shoes in 1978, that season he scored 41 goals in Austrian championship.
