NK Zagreb is a first class team of the Capital city of Croatia. There are six professional football teams in Zagreb and football is a very popular sport in Croatia. It makes easier to build strong reserves base for the teams in the capital city.

NK Zagreb was the first professional football team of the city and one of their most memorable game was already 40 years ago. The match named „big drama in Maksimir Stadium” where they played finally against NK Osijek for the class. More than sixty-four thousand supporters cheered for Zagreb and they finally won with penalties 4-3. This was the highest number of visitors in their Stadium. The team played their first cup final after decomposition of Yugoslavia: but Croatia Zagreb was successful in the Croatian Cup Final.

The team usually competes for the first place in national championship, two times won silver medal until 2002. This year they reached the highest level and won everything. They won the first place in championship with eleven extra points, their coach became the coach of the year, also they won the title player of the year and goalking of the league. In Champions League Hungarian team Zalaegerszeg stopped them before the main round.

One of the biggest legend of Zagreb Joško Popović played in here form the 90’s and he was the member of the team until 2005. He is the third best goal scorer of Croatia, too.

Famous headcoaches worked in the old traditional club, like Otto Baric, Zlatko Kranjcar or Miroslav Blazevic. The team has an interesting nickname. They named “Poets” , and this name arises from the name of the Stadium, because the name of their Stadium is Silvije Stahimir Kranjcevic, who is the most famous poet of the country. Fans of NK Zagreb are little bit different from Croatian fanatics. They totally decline all hooligans and decline all discrimination.
